About The Position

Idaho Power is looking for an Stations Battery Technician I or II to join their Substation Construction team in Boise, Idaho. This role is critical in providing safe, reliable, and affordable energy to communities in Idaho and Oregon. The technician will work individually or in a team to install and test batteries, load centers, chargers, racks, and associated equipment at various sites. They will also perform maintenance and testing on new and existing battery systems. Requirements

Knowledge of related OSHA regulations, chemical safety, SDS and electrical safety work practices.
Knowledge of specific control systems, schemes and equipment used in distribution and transmission voltage level systems.
Knowledge of utility system practices.
Knowledge of station battery systems, test equipment, standards and design theory adhering to stations engineering and design and stations construction specifications.
Knowledge of battery charger types, applications, theories and practices.
Knowledge of equipment related to station control.
Knowledge of hand-held and power tools.
Knowledge of proper lifting/transporting techniques for heavy objects.
Knowledge of AC and DC circuit theory (Technician II only).
Knowledge of wiring diagrams, control schematics, and building layouts (Technician II only).
Knowledge of dispatch functions (Technician II only).
Skills in AC and DC control circuits.
Skills in substation work.
Skills in substation construction procedures.
Skills in battery testing and station checkout procedures.
Skills in using computer software, such as word processing, scheduling, and e-mail.
Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with co-workers and others.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to maintain accurate time and meet deadlines.
Ability to work with as-built drawings.
High school diploma or GED.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card or ability to obtain prior to hire.
Must have a current DOT FMCSA 49 CFR Part 383 Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an attached State-issued Hazardous Materials endorsement or have the ability to obtain within 120 days of hire.
Must obtain First Aid/CPR card within 90 days.
Complete DOT PHMSA 49 CFR Part 172 required hazardous materials employee training within 90 days.
Must abide by Idaho Power Company's safety rules and regulations.
Complete required Company and safety training.
Technician I: Associates degree in electronics discipline with 2 years of electrical or battery installation/testing experience OR State-recognized Journeyman Electrician License OR Completion of a related formal apprenticeship training program recognized by the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship OR An equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Technician II: Associates degree in electronics discipline with 5 or more years work experience in an electrical or control wiring field, including at least 3 years of electrical experience in substations OR State recognized Journeyman Electrician License with 3 or more years of electrical experience in substations outside of apprenticeship hours, OR Completion of a related formal apprenticeship training program recognized by the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship with three or more years of electrical experience in substations outside of apprenticeship hours OR An equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Nice To Haves

Experience in an electrical or battery installation and testing field (Preferred for Technician I).
Completion of appropriate Stations Apprentice program (Preferred for Technician I).

Responsibilities

Works in a team and/or individual environment to install and test batteries, load centers, chargers, racks, and other associated equipment at substations, communication sites, and power plants.
Performs maintenance and testing of new and existing batteries in the system.
Train station apprentices and journeymen in battery work (Technician II only).
Make changes in existing circuits which must be rewired while remaining in service (Technician II only).
Parallel temporary battery systems with station batteries and take station batteries out of service without interruption to station DC supply (Technician II only).
Recognize errors in battery systems and make recommendations to the designer for corrections (Technician II only).
Test and place in service battery systems and other equipment relative to their function (Technician II only).
Arrange shut down and switching, take proper clearance, and be responsible for the safety of the crew when working around any high voltage equipment (Technician II only).
Coordinate the work with other construction crews, regional crews, and system and local dispatchers (Technician II only).
