Stationary Engineers operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide variety of pumping, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and auxiliary plant machinery and equipment in large, complex, or multi-faceted facilities. They ensure that all equipment, machinery, and systems are functioning normally and safely, and comply with all applicable safety rules and regulations. This role may involve operating computerized building management systems, preventative or predictive maintenance systems, or SCADA systems. Responsibilities include inspecting and testing machinery and equipment for safe and efficient operation, testing fire prevention equipment, and inspecting water storage and distribution systems. Stationary Engineers also maintain logs of operations, including gauge readings and water laboratory analysis, and may handle treatment chemicals and hazardous waste. They interact with contractors, tenants, and the public, and are responsible for maintaining keys, communication equipment, and security in the absence of security personnel. As part of an emergency response team, they must recognize, evaluate, and respond to hazardous situations. They perform control tests on water samples to determine various quality parameters and regulate treatment chemical dosages. This position requires a valid California Driver License and a Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certificate.
