About The Position

This position is located at the Cal Poly Solano Campus in Vallejo, California. Under the lead direction of the Chief Engineer and the general supervision of the Senior Director of Facilities Management or Operations Manager, the Stationary Engineer performs a variety of skilled work in the operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of boilers, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, lighting, power, water, water treatment, fire alarms, and other mechanical and building components and systems. This position supports safe, reliable and efficient operation of the Solano campus facilities and infrastructure. This position is located in Vallejo, California at the Cal Poly Maritime Academy. Department Summary Facilities Management and Development (FMD), a unit within the Administration and Finance Division (AFD), is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and repair of university facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. FMD consists of four critical and interdependent support departments, including Customer & Business Services; Energy, Utilities, & Sustainability; Facilities Planning & Capital Projects; and Facilities Operations. Requirements

  • Four (4) years of experience performing duties involving the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler, heating, refrigeration, ventilation, and power equipment in large commercial, industrial, or institutional buildings.
  • Qualifying experience must include the operation and maintenance of air conditioning systems utilizing automatic controls.
  • Completion of 700 hours of formalized technical instruction in Stationary Engineering from a recognized program, such as Job Corps, Skill Centers, Regional Occupational Programs (ROP), trade schools, military training, or Joint Training Partnership Act (JTPA) programs.
  • An Associate of Arts degree or a certificate in Mechanical Electrical Technology may be substituted for the required technical instruction, provided the program includes at least 12 semester units in heating, ventilation, and refrigeration systems involving automatic controls.
  • Two (2) years of additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • This position may require the ability to obtain AHERA Supervisor certification for asbestos related work and Cal/OSHA Lead training as well as the ability to wear respiratory protection.
  • A Cal/OSHA mandated medical evaluation is required prior to the use of a respirator.

Responsibilities

  • Operates, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair boilers, heaters, pumps, valves, piping and related appurtenances used in the distribution of steam and heated water distribution systems.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair HVAC systems including refrigerant compressors, condensers, evaporators, and associated refrigerant lines and devices.
  • Operate, maintain, and repairs air compressors and related systems.
  • Maintain, repair, and monitor water distribution, wastewater, and water treatment systems including filters, softeners, and pool water treatment systems.
  • Perform electrical maintenance and repairs on multi-phase electrical circuits up to 600 volts.
