About The Position

This role is located at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Stationary Engineer will perform start-up, functional operations, shut-down, maintenance, and repair of power plant equipment.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of experience.
  • Must maintain the appropriate certifications.
  • Must possess the degree of familiarization which is consistent with and considered usual and normal for the complexity of the work to be performed.
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to obtain required NASA badge.
  • Employment is contingent upon providing proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. on the first day of employment. Acceptable documents include a certified U.S. Birth Certificate (with state seal), a valid U.S. Passport, or other original documents establishing U.S. citizenship or authorized work status as required by Form I-9.
  • Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
  • Must have a valid REAL ID-compliant driver's license that must be maintained throughout employment
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background and drug test.
  • Must Possess a Stationary Engineer License for the City Of New Orleans.

Responsibilities

  • Operates high pressure boilers, chillers and compressors and all related auxiliary equipment through the use of instruments, gauges, automatic or manual controls.
  • Interprets temperature, pressure and flow reading and maintains prescribed conditions of water level, steam pressure and rate of fuel firing.
  • Makes regular checks of assigned areas to ensure the proper operation of heating and cooling equipment and systems such as steam boilers, pressure vessels, heating furnaces, water chillers, generators, air compressors, fuel heating and pumping apparatus.
  • Conducts routine and periodic physical and functional performance checks on heating and cooling equipment and systems for proper operating conditions.
  • Interprets gauge readings and adjust equipment to maintain appropriate conditions.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with the sequence of starting and shutting off power plant and auxiliary equipment and be able to quickly detect and troubleshoot causes of breakdown or improper operation.
  • Makes minor repairs and adjustments. Informs supervisor of other related repairs and adjustments needed.
  • Maintains a daily log of events including equipment performances, times of operation, materials, maintenance, etc.
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  • Interact professionally with other employees, customers, and suppliers.
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
  • Comply with all applicable safety- and health-related rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Work safely themselves and help their teammates work safely.
  • Assist supervisors and managers in identifying and mitigating potentially hazardous conditions.
  • Help the organization maintain a safe and healthy workplace.
