About The Position

This position serves as a lead worker, providing work direction and training to lower-level powerhouse workers and/or inmates in the installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of powerhouse equipment. This includes boilers, furnaces, stokers, other fuel-burning equipment, turbines, blowers, flow meters, pumps, generators, fans, and pollution control equipment. The role involves making rounds of the powerhouse, reading gauges, adjusting equipment, and observing operations. The Stationary Engineer will start, stop, and change over generating equipment as needed, maintain powerhouse logs, record gauge readings, fuel consumed, and power generated. They will also maintain records of work performed and time cards, and ensure the security of inmates. Additionally, the position requires maintaining an inventory of parts and supplies, ordering parts, overseeing and/or performing maintenance on the area around the powerhouse, and performing annual boiler inspections and maintenance. The role also includes serving on institutional committees, attending training, seminars, and/or meetings as required, and performing security functions such as man-down, shakedown, and inmate movement. Other duties as assigned are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Stationary Steam Engineer License pursuant to Section 4104.19, Revised Code
  • 6 months of experience as a licensed stationary engineer

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and /or performs maintenance on area around powerhouse
  • Performs annual boiler inspection and maintenance

  • Performs security functions as required (e.g., man-down, shakedown, inmate movement)
  • Performs other duties as assigned
