About The Position

Operation and maintenance of steam boilers, air-conditioning and associated support equipment. Operates and maintains building HVAC control systems.

High school graduate or equivalent
Formal trade school or apprenticeship education or equivalent experience to an associate degree level
Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in order to acquire an advanced knowledge of the Hospital’s steam plant equipment and all other machinery within the department’s area of responsibility and acquire the mechanical skills necessary to maintain and repair such complex machinery.
Licensed by the City of Chicago as a Stationary Engineer

Operates and maintains all steam boilers, air-conditioning systems and associates HVAC support equipment in a professional manner.
Troubleshoots and facilitates repair of equipment to maintain space conditions in a timely manner.
Performs preventative maintenance on all HVAC equipment without supervision.
Performs routine maintenance on all HVAC equipment.
Performs daily inspections of equipment, logs operating conditions and seeks resolution and correction when operating parameters are not within guidelines.
Documents actions and operating abnormalities.
Maintains comfort levels in the facility by operating equipment within temperature and humidity guidelines.
Operates and maintains medical gas and vac. systems within guidelines.
Cleans equipment and work area regularly to provide a safe/clean working environment.
Interacts with fellow staff in a professional manner, communicates effectively, shares information freely, and offers suggestions.
Takes responsibility for all equipment within the facility.
