About The Position

The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Stationary Engineer for the Chester Mental Health Center located in Chester, Illinois. This role will receive day-to-day guidance from the Chief Stationary Engineer and is responsible for installing, maintaining, performing preventative maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting, and repairing various mechanical systems and auxiliary and powerhouse equipment. The Stationary Engineer will make regular rounds of buildings’ boiler and mechanical rooms, test and record water used for consumption or for generating steam and hydraulic hot water, and chilled water systems. The position also involves conferring with tenant agencies to resolve problems related to building services and assisting other facilities in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various mechanical systems to ensure proper functioning of systems and equipment. Additionally, the role requires completing all mandatory trainings for compliance with Chester Mental Health Center standards and performing other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of eight (8) years elementary school.
Requires four (4) years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high pressure and/or low-pressure stationary boilers.

Nice To Haves

Four (4) years of specialized experience in the operation of high pressure/low pressure coal, gas or oil-fired boilers and their apparatuses.
Three (3) years of specialized experience in water treatment and various and various chemicals used in boiler systems.
Three (3) years of specialized experience diagnosing problems in mechanical, electrical, heating and air conditioning/HVAC systems.
Three (3) years of professional experience directing the work of employees and outside contractors engaged in the operation and maintenance of technical stationary engineering power plant building systems.
Three (3) years of experience taking utility readings, logging records, ensuring maintenance schedules are followed, reviewing and actioning maintenance reports for technical stationary engineering power plant building systems.
Three (3) years of experience diagnosing building and mechanical issues, recognizing potentially dangerous situations, and implementing appropriate emergency responses.
Three (3) years of specialized experience in public health Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and building codes of technical stationary engineering power plant building systems.
Three (3) years of experience following and expressing complex ideas clearly both orally and in written form in the field of technical stationary engineering power plant building systems.

Responsibilities

Receives day to day guidance from the Chief Stationary Engineer.
Makes rounds of buildings’ boiler and mechanical rooms at regular intervals.
Tests and records water used for consumption or for generating steam and hot water, chilled water systems.
Confers with tenant agencies to resolve problems related to building services.
Assists other facilities in the installation, maintenance and repair of various mechanical systems to ensure proper functioning of systems and equipment.
Completes all mandatory trainings for compliance for Chester Mental Health Center.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
