About The Position

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as Stationary Engineer at Dixon Correctional Center. This position is responsible for assuming responsibility for the Power Plant and its equipment, and scheduling building repairs and shutdowns to ensure maximum operation and the least possible number of emergency situations due to the shutdowns. In addition, this position reviews and prepares reports, serves as lead worker, and remains up to date with all Department Rules, Administrative and Institutional Directives and Institutional Policies and Procedures.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
  • Requires four (4) years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high-pressure and/or low-pressure stationary boilers.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen.
  • Requires the possession of or acquisition of a valid certificate as a Universal Technician under U.S. E.P.A. Section 608 Rules within 12 months of hire.
  • This position requires the ability to work at heights, including on ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, or elevated platforms, while adhering to all safety regulations and using appropriate fall protection measures.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working with hot water heaters and distribution systems.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working with chemicals related to operation and maintenance of high-pressure boilers.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience operating a backhoe and skid loader.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with recordkeeping and filing.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in report writing.
  • Prefers completion of current OSHA 10 training or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for the Power Plant and its equipment such as Air Handling Units, North and South Electrical Feeders, Steam Pumps, Circulating Pumps, Water Softeners, Hot Water Heaters, and Reverse Osmosis Unit.
  • Schedules building repairs and shutdowns to ensure a maximum operation and the least possible emergency situations due to the shutdowns.
  • Reviews and prepares daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Serves as a lead worker.
  • Remains up to date with all Department Rules, Administrative and Institutional Directives, and Institutional Policies and Procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
