About The Position

The Stationary Engineer will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of one or more systems such as heat, air-conditioning (cool, humidify, dehumidify, filter, and air circulation), refrigeration, steam or high-temperature water, domestic water, hydronic, or electricity. This role requires the ability to adjust controls for safe and efficient system operation, perform diagnostic testing, and conduct preventive maintenance on various building mechanical equipment. The engineer will also be responsible for troubleshooting and performing minor repairs, maintaining cleanliness in utility areas, and handling communication duties in the absence of a dispatcher.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain base access.
  • Submit to and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Stationary Engineer's license.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five years of recent experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of high-pressure boilers.
  • Must possess a Maryland third grade engineer license or equivalent license from other jurisdictions as accepted by the KO/COR.

  • Prior experience working on government contracts.
  • Experience with chillers over 900 tons.
  • OSHA 10.

Responsibilities

  • Adjusts controls to ensure safe and efficient operation of the systems, including HVAC system controls, lighting control, and power monitoring.
  • Performs diagnostic testing and analysis of system changes and problems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance operational checks on actuators, valves, and dampers.
  • Ensures proper working order of boilers, chillers, machinery, pumps, compressors, and other building mechanical equipment.
  • Coordinates with trades in performing tasks related to operating or maintaining the equipment and systems.
  • Observes and interprets readings on gauges, meters, thermometers, sensors, and charts.
  • Records data on various aspects of system operations.
  • Performs maintenance on operations system and other building mechanical equipment including Air Handlers, Cooling Towers, Fan Coil Units, Vales, and VAVs.
  • Troubleshoots and performs minor repairs to boilers, chillers, pumps, air handlers, fan coil units, VAVs, and other associated mechanical equipment.
  • Performs minor after-hours repairs.
  • Performs housekeeping duties in the Central Utility Plant (CUP), Cooling Tower area, Pump House, and BAS control station area.
  • Answers the phone in the absence of the dispatcher and after hours and takes the appropriate information to address the issue.
  • Presents a professional, positive, and helpful attitude at all times when interacting with customers, co-workers, and supervision.
  • Maintains effective communication with management, employees, and customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance per job plans on assigned equipment within the Central Utility Plant.
