About The Position

The Station Program Assistant serves as part of the 22 West Radio student management team. The Station Program Assistant monitors the performance of all DJs, provides solutions, assistance, and deadlines, and plans programming for the radio station.

Requirements

  • Experience with on-air and station management responsibilities and one year's experience as a disc jockey or radio host.
  • Must be a current and active CSULB student enrolled in a minimum of 6 units.
  • Knowledge of Internet software and the Google, Adobe and Microsoft Office suite of applications, especially audio editing software.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, customers or employees of organization.
  • Must acquire proficiency in Station Playlist Pro and Adobe Audition software through participation in mandatory training.
  • Must complete training on FCC broadcast regulations regarding noncommercial radio.

  • Previous volunteer experience with 22 West Media preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Recruits, auditions, and assists in certifying and training of on-air talent. Guides the volunteer radio hosts in station operations.
  • Assists the Student General Manager in leading, evaluating, and correcting on-air talent, as well as resolving their complaints and grievances.
  • Establishes schedules and maintains contact list of all on-air talent.
  • With assistance from the Student General Manager, Music Assistant, News and Public Affairs Assistant and Sports Broadcasting Assistant to determine type, length, and time of each program, including commercial announcements and newscasts, as well as entertainment programs.
  • Creates and maintains current master program grid. Fills any gaps in on-air programming schedule. Ensures that rebroadcasts are played at their scheduled date and time.
  • Edits and selects automation programming and ensures that it is fluid, consistent, and adheres to community standards.
  • Identifies and prevents from broadcast any material that is potentially libelous, slanderous, obscene, or potentially conducive to a material and substantial disruption of campus activities. Upon threat of litigation or complaint of content, notifies supervisor and ensures that appropriate action is taken to manage the complaint.
  • Communicates program schedule changes and preemptions with talent while keeping Student General Manager informed, publishes an updated schedule on the 22 West Media website.
  • Assists in monitoring radio programs/quality control for 22 West Radio. Performs regular air-checks on all on-air talent. Works with on-air talent to develop show elements and personalities. Assists in the direct production of selected shows.
  • Reaches out and creates partnerships with external distributors, syndicators and independent producers to attract listeners and build credibility. Evaluates programming available to recommend acquisitions for broadcast.
  • Confers with Student General Manager and the Station Production and Imaging Assistant to solve production or casting problems.
  • With the assistance of the 22 West Administrative Assistants, creates, maintains and archives terrestrial HD3 program logs in compliance with Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) regulations.
  • Assists the Student General Manager with the coordination of monthly meetings of all on-air talent.
  • Attends bi-weekly staff meetings and submits a written report following guidelines from the Student General Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job.
