About The Position

POLITICO is seeking a Statehouse Tech Reporter to join its Sacramento newsroom. This role will focus on covering California's technology policy and politics, including key state-level debates on cryptocurrency regulation, social media platforms, and data privacy. The reporter will contribute to the daily California Decoded newsletter, deliver agenda-setting tech coverage for policymakers and industry leaders, break news, provide policy updates, and write enterprise stories for a global audience. The position involves collaborating with POLITICO's tech reporters in Washington, London, and Brussels to connect global power centers and explain the significance of tech developments. The ideal candidate will have a strong network of sources in state government and the private sector, producing stories with robust angles and fresh ideas. This is a fast-paced role requiring a determined reporter to deliver breaking news and high-impact enterprise for an informed subscriber audience and global readership.

Requirements

  • A strong interest in political journalism.
  • Familiarity with California politics and government.
  • Familiarity with tech policy issues or extensive experience developing a policy, political, or government beat.
  • A track record of clean, clear, accurate, and authoritative writing.

Responsibilities

Benefits

  • Compensation: $80,000 - $90,000 Annual Base.
