About The Position

The Medtronic Corporate Tax Department is seeking a State Tax Manager to join our US Tax Operations group. This position is an individual contributor role responsible for managing Medtronic's state corporate income tax function, including tax filings, tax research, tax accounting, and collaboration with finance professionals across the organization. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of state income tax experience (or 3+ years with an advanced degree)
  • Experience in Federal income tax compliance

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance
  • Public accounting and/or large multinational corporate income tax experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Experience with CorpTax, Research Software and SharePoint
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage large projects and responsibilities in a matrixed organization.
  • Experience managing the successful filing of a large volume of state and local income tax returns for complex corporations and large partnerships.
  • Strong business writing skills
  • Ability and desire to drive process improvements.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the work of tax professionals and/or vendors in the preparation of Medtronic’s state and local income and franchise tax returns.
  • Organize and manage internal and external deliverables, including compliance milestones and workplan.
  • Manages state & local income / franchise tax notices and collaborates with the Controversy Team
  • Manages state tax credits / incentives and participate in the federal R&D Credit workstream.
  • Manage resources in a collaborative environment.
  • Train US Tax Operations team members on state income tax concepts
  • Prepare and review quarterly and year-end ASC 740 state deliverables.
  • Keep informed of new laws and regulations including analyzing tax impact and incorporating into the compliance process.
  • Review or prepare calculation of estimated income tax liabilities as required for quarterly estimated income tax payments and cash tax forecasting.
  • Work with other tax professionals to identify and resolve tax questions, including performing tax research and analysis.
  • Assist senior leaders to make strategic decisions.
  • Have a continuous process improvement mindset that incorporates procedural efficiencies, tax technology, strategies for automation and communication to stakeholders.
  • Work on special projects, with varying levels of involvement and responsibilities
  • Manage projects assigned by leadership.
