About The Position

This position is responsible for the preparation, filing, and remittance of sales and use tax returns and personal property tax returns, ensuring accurate and timely compliance across all applicable jurisdictions. The State Tax Manager will prepare and file sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy and timely submission. They will also prepare and file personal property tax returns and ensure timely payment of related assessments. This role involves calculating and processing remittance of sales and use tax payments, maintaining fixed asset schedules, and reconciling asset listings for personal property tax reporting. The State Tax Manager will review personal property tax assessments and notices, and assist with appeals where warranted. They will facilitate the preparation of state tax returns with external service providers to ensure timely filing and collaborate proactively with other departments to ensure proper sales & use tax and asset management treatment. Monitoring sales & use tax and personal property tax technical, legislative, and regulatory developments, and communicating relevant changes to senior leadership is also a key responsibility. Maintaining and updating taxability matrices and exemption certificates across jurisdictions, responding to and managing tax notices, audits, and inquiries from taxing authorities, and assisting in the execution of a long-term vision and strategy for the Tax function, including future build-out of the team, are also part of this role. The State Tax Manager will collaborate with other internal Finance departments during monthly/quarterly closes, be responsible for the preparation and filing of other non-income tax returns as needed and remittance of corresponding taxes, provide tax support on ad hoc projects as needed, and perform tax research as necessary to complete assigned tasks/projects. Preparing monthly tax-related account reconciliations, assisting in the development of and support to internal auditors in maintaining SOX controls, and proactively seeking to streamline the compliance process and create efficiencies through automation are also expected. Other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 5+ years of relevant tax experience, in public accounting or industry
  • Extensive, hands-on experience preparing and filing sales and use tax returns
  • Strong willingness to learn new things
  • Ability to identify, research, and effectively communicate resolutions on tax issues
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to travel, less than 10%
  • Experience working in various ERP tools
  • Detail-oriented and willing to roll up sleeves

Nice To Haves

  • CPA and/or Master's in Taxation preferred
  • personal property tax experience strongly preferred
