Assist in performance audits of state agencies, institutions, and authorities, focusing on management effectiveness and efficiency and program performance. Trainees receive structured training, on-the-job training, and/or practical job experience to develop the knowledge and skills required to work at the full-performance level. State Program Examiners evaluate systems and procedures for compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and contract terms; assess program efficiency and effectiveness and whether funds are used in accordance with requirements; and determine whether effective controls are in place in audited areas. They prepare audit work papers and preliminary audit findings, discuss findings with auditee representatives, and participate in entrance and exit conferences. The position may be filled at the State Program Examiner Trainee 1, Trainee 2, or full-performance State Program Examiner 1 level, depending on education, experience, and prior state service. Trainees who successfully complete their traineeship advance to the full-performance level. Work is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; a compressed workweek is allowed, and telecommuting may be approved subject to agency needs and conditions. Employees new to OSC are generally restricted from telecommuting for at least eight calendar weeks; after that, approved employees may telecommute up to five days per pay period. Travel is 5%, and mandatory overtime is not required.
