About The Position
The State Mining Engineer position manages the statewide implementation of the Mining Act of 1971, including permitting, inspection, enforcement, and education and training of the mining industry and the general public. The State Mining Engineer III is responsible for independently planning and conducting the mine regulatory program through reviewing program needs on a continual basis and establishing program priorities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Must possess a valid Professional Engineer's (PE) License or obtain a valid PE License within nine (9) months of the start date for the position.
- Obtaining and maintaining a valid PE license is a continuing condition of employment.
Nice To Haves
- May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Responsibilities
- Directs the technical and administrative activities of the State Mining Program.
- Issues permits and recommendations for denial, appropriate compliance/enforcement actions.
- Project development/implementation, and staff training.
- Provides expert guidance in mining-related issues to division employees, other agencies and the general public.
- Serves as staff member to the Mining Commission.
