About The Position

Within the Correctional Division, this role manages and directs comprehensive maintenance, repair, and construction programs. It involves supervising staff and inmates in carrying out preventive maintenance and construction projects across all facilities. The position also requires formulating plan-of-action reports and cost estimations for each project. The work is performed under general supervision with significant latitude for initiative and independent judgment, and is reviewed for compliance with various regulations and codes.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of the techniques, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of buildings.
  • Working knowledge of construction plans and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of fire and safety standards and codes.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and review the work of others.
  • Ability to deal effectively with vendors and contractors.
  • Ability to maintain records of renovations and repairs.
  • Ability to make complex tabulations and arithmetic computations.
  • Ability to prepare oral and written reports.
  • Graduation from an accredited college with an associate's degree in technical studies, and/or employment in a position responsible for the inspection of building construction and materials requiring the maintenance of fiscal and clerical records.
  • Any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Practical experience in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of steam systems, chillers, cooling towers, and plumbing infrastructure.
  • 5-10 years working in the maintenance field with strong mechanical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct comprehensive maintenance, repair, and construction programs, personnel, and operation services for facilities occupied by D.O.A. programs.
  • Oversee the inspection of vendor and contractor work to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, contracts, and codes.
  • Ensure maintenance improvements and upkeep of buildings under the division's jurisdiction.
  • Manage a comprehensive maintenance program for boilers and HVAC systems.
  • Review and approve building operations service contracts.
  • Consult with divisional personnel for clarification and approval of vouchers, requisitions, purchase orders, and contract payments.
  • Assist in the preparation of a Capital Development Program regarding renovations, construction, and maintenance repairs.
  • Prepare a yearly program of scheduled projects and activities.
  • Prepare cost estimates for maintenance and repair projects to comply with budgetary allotments.
  • Compile data to prepare reports of completed work.
