About The Position

RSM’s State and Local Tax interns work with large and small companies across various industries. They build client relationships by learning about clients’ businesses and challenges and contribute to multiple team engagements and different parts of assignments. Interns work in a mutually respectful team environment while supporting state and local tax services, planning, research, and client process improvements. The role requires travel to assigned client locations and access to reliable transportation. The position is for Summer 2027.

Requirements

Complete 90 credit hours.
Be working toward a B.A./B.S. degree or equivalent from an accredited university.
Major in accounting.
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Travel to assigned client locations and have access to and the ability to arrange reliable transportation to those locations.

Nice To Haves

A minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Ability to work effectively on a team.
Ability to work and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Integrate state and local tax services with existing clients.
Complete tax planning and research tasks.
Develop an understanding of state and local tax regulations and accounting pronouncements.
Review clients’ current tax processes to identify inefficiencies and recommend enhancements that improve procedures and reduce tax exposure.
Work with client information technology personnel to obtain historical purchasing and sales data for reporting requirements and audit procedures, and review the data for potential refunds or credits.
Assist clients in evaluating sales and use tax software systems and support the implementation process.
