About The Position

RSM is hiring a State and Local Tax Intern for Summer 2027. Interns work with companies of different sizes and across industries, building client relationships by understanding their businesses and challenges. They participate in multiple team engagements each year and contribute to several parts of assignments in a collaborative, mutually respectful environment. The role provides exposure to state and local tax services, tax planning and research, client tax processes, reporting and audit procedures, and sales/use tax software.

Requirements

Complete at least 90 credit hours.
Be working toward a B.A. / B.S. degree or equivalent from an accredited university.
Be an Accounting major.
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Travel to assigned client locations; have access to and ability to arrange reliable transportation to those locations.

Nice To Haves

A minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Ability to work effectively on a team.
Ability to work and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Integrate state and local tax services with existing clients.
Complete tax planning and research tasks.
Develop an understanding of state and local tax regulations and accounting pronouncements.
Review clients’ current tax processes to identify inefficiencies and recommend enhancements that improve procedures and reduce tax exposure.
Work with client information technology personnel to obtain historical purchasing and sales data for reporting requirements and audit procedures, and review the data for potential refunds or credits.
Assist clients in evaluating sales/use tax software systems that meet compliance needs and support implementation.
