About The Position

Under supervision of clubhouse manager and/or assistants, performs a variety of tasks required for maintaining an orderly flow of play in accordance with the reserved tee times. Responsible for seeing that all appropriate fees have been paid before play begins. Responsible for explaining all daily rules as well as the pace of play rules to customers. The Starter will act in a proper manner and be courteous to all groups in accordance with the procedures in the Fox Run manual. The Starter position requires the employee be physically able to maneuver the cart ramp, operate a golf cart, and assist with the staging and takedown of carts and any other duties that are deemed relevant to the starter position.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the game of golf
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions
  • Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees
  • Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of a high school diploma
  • CPR and First Aid certified (training conducted by the Elk Grove Park District)

  • Background with golf course operations is helpful but not necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an orderly flow of play in accordance with reserved tee times.
  • Ensure all appropriate fees have been paid before play begins.
  • Explain daily rules and pace of play rules to customers.
  • Act in a proper and courteous manner towards all groups.
  • Maneuver the cart ramp, operate a golf cart, and assist with staging and takedown of carts.
  • Enforce golf course and Park District policies in a positive manner.
  • Properly check and mark cash receipts from the golf shop.
  • Point out dress code and other rules courteously when necessary.
  • Assist players without a tee time in finding a group to play with to maximize facility efficiency.
  • Keep accurate records of the day's play, including no-shows, 9-hole turn times, pace of play warnings, cart numbers, and number of players.
  • Supervise play in accordance with club rules and inform golfers of pace of play programs and course rules.
  • Perform job safely and in compliance with district policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
  • Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary to accomplish tasks.
  • Keep a sufficient supply of scorecards and pencils at the first tee.
  • Police the surrounding area for cleanliness and order during slow times.
  • Assist the cart attendant with the staging of carts.
  • Monitor nearby tees and greens for pace of play.
  • Act in a professional and courteous manner when communicating with customers and staff.
  • Apprise management of any situations detrimental to golf operations.
  • Perform other areas of responsibility as delegated by manager or assistants.
