About The Position

The Standardized Patients (SP) are recruited either to simulate medical scenarios or to teach students essential clinical skills. Both roles basic function is to provide professional educational services to teach and assess health sciences learner. Training is mandatory and required to proceed with scheduling. SPs recruited to simulate medical scenarios are expected to portray the case with realism and accuracy. SPs will often be physically examined by students and faculty as part of the learning experience. SPs will recall information, complete a checklist, and provide verbal feedback to learners. SPs will be trained prior to all project participation. If an incumbent is recruited as an SP for teaching sessions, they will teach learners clinical techniques, including but not limited to history-taking, physical examination, communication, empathy, etc. These SPs must complete a rigorous initial training module as well as refresher training prior to all teaching sessions. During teaching sessions, SPs will engage learners by providing them step by step instructions on techniques as well as constructive feedback. SPs will use their body as the teaching tool. All SP work is supervised by the SP Educator, Administrative Manager, Operations Manager and the Director of Simulation & Clinical Skills. Work hours will vary and are dependent upon course schedules. SPs are permitted a maximum of 58 hours per pay period and are requested to work a minimum of 25 hours per pay period, subject to course needs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be of legal status to work in the US.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient.
  • Must successfully complete initial HU Introduction to Standardized Methodology workshop for scheduling.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an SP.
  • Experience in an academic, healthcare, or simulation learning environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Simulate all aspects of scenarios, including history of current problem, affect/behavior and physical findings, in a standardized, accurate, and reliable manner.
  • Wear professional clinical attire for work assignments including a hospital gown with only appropriate undergarments, while on camera and/or observed live through an observation window or video monitor.
  • Accurately and consistently complete checklists at a 95% accuracy percentage.
  • Provide verbal feedback to learners using constructive feedback training.
  • Allow and be comfortable with having repeated physical examination maneuvers performed on body by learners and clinical faculty.
  • Accept ongoing feedback from supervisors to incorporate into case simulation.
  • Be willing to be audio and videotaped during simulations (onsite and virtual).
  • Demonstrate flexibility and reliability with work scheduling and assignments.
  • Follow written and verbal instructors from supervisors.
  • Demonstrate core values of professionalism when interacting with learners, faculty, supervisors, and peers.
  • Follow all Center and HU Policies and Procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
