About The Position

The Tooling Lead at Magna Engineered Glass is a self-directed hands-on leader who supports and prioritizes the activities of their assigned technical team. This role ensures that products produced meet the customer needs in the areas of cost and quality. They ensure that a safe work environment is always maintained. They participate and lead continuous improvement initiatives, including new tool development, to support production.

Requirements

  • Skilled in operating conventional toolroom equipment including lathes, mills, and grinders.
  • Proficient in blueprint reading.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of interacting professionally at all levels of the organization and external vendors.
  • English proficiency required, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Journeyman card and 5 year of related work experience, or the equivalent in education and experience.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and protocols in manufacturing environments.
  • Competent and certified in safe operation of a forklift and overhead crane.
  • Familiarity with quality control functions and precision gauge usage.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management skills, including staff development and goal achievement.
  • Demonstrate ability to motivate team toward goals of a moderate-term focus.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, Hazardous Waste Certification (training provided).
  • Capable of lifting approximately 40 pounds regularly and up to 60 pounds occasionally.

  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • 5+ years of automotive experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 10% of the time).

Responsibilities

  • Identify and rectify common tooling issues, contributing to uninterrupted production.
  • Participate and manage preventative maintenance on tooling, ability to adjust schedule as needed.
  • Ability to work with design team and other departments to support new tool build.
  • Ability to communicate with external vendors (build shops) on design reviews and support new tool builds off-site.
  • Direct the day-to-day responsibilities of technical team, providing hands-on support.
  • Development of employees using established training and training matrices, including on the job and classroom training.
  • Presents new information to large and small groups.
  • Administers and applies company policy consistently and fairly.
  • Supports the supervisor/manager with employee personnel decisions and performance reviews.
  • Contributes to maintaining and developing team morale.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement for customer concerns, on time delivery through schedule attainment, quality, scrap reduction, safety and morale.
  • Leads teams through problem solving process, documents issues and identifies solutions that prevent recurrence.
  • Supports Continuous Improvement team in the performance and completion of time studies of operation while developing and performing, with the team, work sequence, standardized work and takt time charting
  • Troubleshoot and ability to root cause an area of concern, filling out appropriate documentation as required.
  • Collaborate cross functionally to develop new tools for assigned presses.
  • Organize and manage inventory records to effectively track the tools, including having essential components on hand to support production demand.
  • Support 5S initiatives including managing lubricants, maintaining proper application and cleanliness.
  • May be required to handle hazardous waste.
  • Maintain an organized and orderly workplace, following 5S and ensuring team follows 5S.
  • Train and assist technical team in their daily tasks, as well as educate them about press maintenance.
  • Provide support to technical team on all production shifts.
  • Foster teamwork by sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues.
  • Partner and collaborate with the scheduling team to determine material quantities based on machine run time.
  • Support the scheduling for production demand.
  • Responsible for understanding blueprints, to know how and when production can be adjusted.
  • Partner with quality and design teams.
