About The Position

You'll get the satisfaction of making great products people use and love. The Stamping Controls Engineer will assist Press & Automation teams as an electrical consult. The controls engineer will have opportunities in managing technical projects from start to finish, through interactions with OEM integration suppliers, supporting electrical design reviews, and driving adherence to controls standards. Projects includes controls migrations on existing equipment, controls implementation for new programs, and support development of new controls standards. The engineer will also play a role in leading innovative technology developments in Stamping, including vision systems, robotics, networking, and electrical controls. This job will require familiarization in industrial automation, including IO Link, Siemens and Rockwell PLCs, HMIs, Siemens and Bosch Rexroth for press and automation motion control, Fanuc robotics, industrial networking, and manufacturing execution systems.

Requirements

  • Electrical Engineering degree or related Electrical specialization preferred.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in Manufacturing, with robust understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Exposure in Stamping production environments, including Front of Line, Press, Interpress Automation, and End of Line is considered a plus.
  • Strong programming knowledge of Siemens PLCs and HMIs.
  • Some degree of exposure to Fanuc robots.
  • Ability to perform equipment troubleshooting, including PLC, motion drives, robot, and other automation issues.
  • Good project management skills from equipment design to plant floor implementation.
  • Familiarity with Industrial Controls Standards (NEC, NFPA, ANSI, UL98, UL508A, IEC).
  • Good understanding of NFPA 70E and NEC relevant to arc flash studies, short circuit current ratings (SCCR), full load amperage (FLA), 480VAC, 120VAC, and 24VDC power distribution including isolation transformers, power distribution panels (PDPs), and fuse and cable sizing requirements.
  • Some background in facilities project management, including electrical substations, bus ducts and bus plugs fed to electrical panels is considered a big plus.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel 50% of time during program launch

Responsibilities

  • Interpret electrical controls prints and support 50% and 100% electrical design reviews.
  • Support end-to-end IIoT replications through device management and deployments.
  • Work cross functionally with Manufacturing Technology Development, IT Manufacturing, OEMs, integrators, manufacturing plants, and safety.
  • Write purchase orders as requisitioner to support and project manage program deliverables.
  • Implement and document lessons learned and plan for nonrecurrences.
  • Lead stamping new programs implementation and controls migration efforts through budgetary, engineering reviews and implementation.
  • Support and enforce the use of Ford safety processes during program launches and equipment upgrades.
  • Contribute to Controls Software Specification as new OEM standard for PLCs and HMIs globalization.
  • Support virtual engineering initiatives to eliminate programming errors before onsite commissioning phase.
  • Planned obsolescence management for Industrial Controls Systems through periodic Approved Component List assessments.
  • Drive NFPA and NEC adherence to ensure electrical equipment panels are UL-compliant.
