About The Position

The Staffing & Scheduling Specialist plays a pivotal role at Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMHCS). The Specialist is responsible for ensuring the efficient allocation and scheduling of nursing staff across various units within a healthcare facility. This involves managing workforce schedules, prioritizing staffing needs, liaising with different departments to address staffing issues, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational policies. The Specialist will leverage staffing software systems to optimize staffing levels, improve operational efficiency, and ensure the highest level of patient care.

Requirements

  • A minimum of one (1) year of healthcare-related experience preferably in a hospital setting.
  • An associate degree in health care or business administration, or related field (bachelor’s preferred), or high school/GED equivalent and two (2) additional years of relevant experience can be considered in lieu of degree requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with scheduling software (e.g., API or other similar systems), Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), and familiarity with EHR systems.
  • Healthcare management certification, e.g., Certified Healthcare Administrative Professional (CHAP), or similar credential.
  • An understanding of staffing regulations (e.g., nurse-patient ratios, union agreements), labor laws, and healthcare accreditation standards.
  • Experience with managing staffing projects, workflow improvements, or process optimization in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively between departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to prioritize and resolve staffing issues efficiently.
  • Three plus (3+) years of experience in nursing staff scheduling, healthcare staffing management, or workforce management in a hospital or large healthcare setting.
