About The Position

Provides overall planning, direction, coordination, management and supervision for the staffing and education; this includes coordinating staff education, annual competencies, scheduling, competencies, recruitment, staff retention and orientation programs. Consults with staff, physicians, DON’s, managers and Administration on the organization’s educational requirements to ensure patient and staff needs are met. Develops educational policies, procedures and programs. Serves as a resource person to staff, managers, and medical staff regarding EHR software Matrix.

Requirements

  • Job experience in medical or LTC facility preferred.
  • Working knowledge and ability to demonstrate a comprehension of medical and nursing education and patient care management.
  • Knowledge of pertinent regulatory, accrediting, and advisory body requirements including, but not limited to, local and state regulations.
  • Must possess organizational skills that include maintaining employee records
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to educate and respond to hospital, nursing home and external agency personnel.
  • Basic computer knowledge, especially the EHR (Matrix) system.
  • Must demonstrate a basic understanding of QI monitoring and utilization management activities.
  • CPR certification
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Basic Computer Skills

Responsibilities

  • Communicates directly and/or indirectly with medical and nursing education staff on issues relating to orientation needs.
  • Communicates directly and/or indirectly with medical and nursing education staff on issues relating to educational needs of health care providers.
  • Demonstrates ability to direct educational programs covering the adult and geriatric population.
  • Ensures personnel receive timely, complete and documented orientation and training. This includes annual competency requirements for applicable staff.
  • Interacts professionally with the nursing staff, nurse managers and other department managers to determine specific educational needs and to coordinate educational programs to meet those needs.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with all departments of the organization. Coordinates the required and identified needs in-services.
  • Assists with the coordination of performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Performs educational management activities including reports, presentations, evaluations, and maintains educational and skills records for the orientation programs to submit to HR.
  • Ability to serve as a resource person, consultant to nursing and medical staff, students and ancillary staff members.
  • Develops, coordinates, conducts and evaluates organization-wide staff development programs, seminars, conferences, etc.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized.
  • Able to work weekends or evening hours as necessary to fulfill education needs of facility.
  • Participates and manages regularly scheduled programs such as new employee general orientation and annual updates.
  • Provides updated information to all staff as regulations, practices, and equipment changes are made to keep nursing homes in compliance with current standards.
  • Responsible for ensuring all staff are compliant with annual health and education requirements.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs).
  • Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
  • Follows Code of Conduct policy.
  • Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual educational requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification when on duty; uses computerized time clock system correctly.
  • Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion.
  • Attends annual review and/or skills fair and department in-services, as scheduled.
  • Attempts to end conversations and other interactions in a positive manner; leaves others with a good impression of the Hospital Authority of Miller County and its employees.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission statement of the organization.
