About The Position

Forbes Advisor is seeking a Staff Writer for its SMB team to cover business products and services, including company formation, payroll and accounting, web design, project management, payment processing, VPNs and more. The team covers topics ranging from starting a company to selecting software and operating a small business, with the goal of helping readers make informed choices through engaging stories, data and intent-driven journalism. The role involves researching, testing and reviewing products and services for small businesses and collaborating with the managing editor on review priorities. The position is remote and works with a distributed team across time zones.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience in small business journalism, preferably in product reviews.
• Experience reviewing SMB products and services.
• 3–5 years of experience in online journalism.
• Strong communication and task-management skills in a remote work environment with a distributed team across time zones.
• Demonstrably strong understanding of the small business space.
• Experience with SEO best practices and willingness to learn and expand SEO skills.
• Highly organized, meticulous and detail-oriented.
• Adaptable and open to quick changes in strategy.
• Ability to learn quickly and research and develop expertise in various SMB categories.

Responsibilities

• Research products and services, focusing on use cases, prices and other metrics relevant to prospective buyers.
• Review methodologies and provide input on providers and data points to evaluate for best-of content.
• Test products and services to understand how they work and which customers they are right for.
• Conduct hands-on research to assess the value of products and services, including capturing photos to illustrate the user experience.
• Write expert reviews explaining the pros and cons of each product or service reviewed.
• Work with the managing editor to prioritize which products and services to review next.
• Respond promptly to Slack messages and emails.
