About The Position
Clinvet NY is a global veterinary contract research organization (CRO) specializing in invitro, pre-clinical, and clinical trials to evaluate the safety, metabolism, and efficacy of animal health products. As part of the Clinglobal Group, we support innovation for animal health companies worldwide—from startups to industry leaders. The Staff Veterinarian supports the health, welfare and clinical care of research animals at Clinvet NY, while helping maintain the site’s Animal Care and Use Program. The position provides veterinary oversight, clinical care, disease prevention, study support, and regulatory compliance in accordance with applicable laws, IACUC requirements, study protocols and company procedures. The Staff Veterinarian works closely with the Attending Veterinarian and research operations teams, provides veterinary guidance and technical support to animal care staff, and serves as a designated backup to the Attending Veterinarian when assigned. The role does not include routine personnel management responsibilities.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) degree from an accredited veterinary school.
- Current, unrestricted license to practice veterinary medicine in New York State, or eligibility to obtain New York State licensure upon employment.
- USDA Accreditation (Category I or II), or ability to obtain accreditation within six months of employment.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant veterinary experience, preferably in laboratory animal medicine, research, or a related veterinary field.
- Knowledge of animal welfare, veterinary care, anesthesia, analgesia, surgery, disease prevention, and clinical documentation.
- Strong clinical judgment and effective communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care and clinical oversight to support the health, welfare, and humane treatment of research animals.
- Conduct examinations, diagnose and treat health conditions, and manage illness, injury, pain, distress, adverse events, and humane endpoints.
- Support preventive medicine, disease surveillance, colony health monitoring, and veterinary health programs.
- Provide veterinary input on housing, husbandry, enrichment, quarantine, isolation, and environmental conditions.
- Provide veterinary oversight and support for surgical procedures, anesthesia, sedation, analgesia, euthanasia, perioperative care, and post-procedure monitoring.
- Review study and procedural plans and provide veterinary recommendations related to animal health, welfare, clinical monitoring, and procedural requirements.
- Collaborate with Study Directors, Principal Investigators, Research Operations, Animal Care and Use personnel, and Quality Assurance to support study execution and ensure compliance with approved protocols.
- Support implementation and continuous improvement of the Animal Care and Use Program and promote ethical animal use in accordance with applicable regulatory and professional standards.
- Support compliance with IACUC requirements, USDA regulations, applicable state requirements, study protocols, and company procedures.
- Identify, document, and escalate animal welfare concerns, disease or biosafety risks, protocol deviations, and other compliance issues.
- Participate in audits, inspections, sponsor visits, protocol reviews, animal welfare assessments, and internal program reviews.
- Maintain accurate, complete, contemporaneous, and traceable veterinary medical and treatment records.
- Ensure veterinary areas, equipment, medications, and documentation are maintained in an inspection-ready condition.
- Serve as a veterinary resource to animal care, research, and operational teams and provide training, mentorship, and technical guidance as appropriate.
- Support emergency, after-hours, weekend, and holiday veterinary coverage as needed.
- Serve as designated backup to the Attending Veterinarian during approved absences or as assigned.
- Perform other duties consistent with professional qualifications, licensure, and scope of veterinary practice.
