About The Position

The Arizona Humane Society is seeking an energetic Veterinarian with at least 2-3 years of experience, including surgical and dental, to join their mission-driven organization. This position is located at their state-of-the-art Papago Park Campus and offers a salary of $120,000+ depending upon skills and experience. The role involves overseeing the treatment of sick, injured, and abused animals, administering excellent patient care in a well-equipped trauma hospital, performing physical exams and diagnostics, and providing general surgery, dentistry, and spay/neuter services. The veterinarian will also provide care instructions to veterinary technicians and serve as a positive leader within the organization.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor Degree and license to practice in Arizona (or ability to obtain AZ license).
  • Active DEA license required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a veterinary practice required.
  • Must work well in a team environment and provide exceptional customer service internally and externally.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary.
  • Proficiency with or ability to learn/use Chameleon software (for use with animals in a shelter environment).
  • Must pass pre-employment drug and background screening to be compliant with DEA requirements for dispensing controlled drugs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in an animal shelter preferred.
  • Above average surgical and dental skills preferred.
  • Orthopedic surgical skills a plus.
  • Spanish language helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the treatment of animals, including those that are sick, injured, and abused and are brought in by our nationally recognized Emergency Animal Medical Technicians.
  • Administer excellent patient care in a well-equipped trauma hospital with in-house lab equipment, digital x-ray, and ultrasound.
  • Perform physical exams, diagnostics, therapeutics, and determine appropriate disposition for animals.
  • Treat shelter animals, including general surgery, dentistry, and spay/neuter.
  • Provide accurate care instructions to a team of veterinary technicians.
  • Serve as a positive leader and promote a professional image through interactions with employees, donors, stakeholders and the media.
