Staff Thermal Limits Engineer

Qualcomm•San Diego, CA
•$155,400 - $233,200

About The Position

Qualcomm’s System Performance Team optimizes and validates performance for Snapdragon chipsets across server, mobile and compute, automotive, and IoT business units. The Staff Thermal Limits Engineer leads collaboration with software, hardware, and architecture teams to optimize system power, performance, and thermal behavior, with a priority on server business needs. The role uses advanced systems knowledge to research, simulate, and validate performance and ensure products meet thermal and electrical requirements, while leading engineering activities across multiple projects. The engineer defines thermal and limits-management strategies, conducts silicon and system-level testing and validation, analyzes performance across workloads and concurrent scenarios, and directs investigations into complex issues. The role also provides technical leadership and mentorship, coordinates program activities, develops automation—including use of generative AI tools—and communicates recommendations to product teams and senior executives.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of practical post-silicon experience analyzing power and performance of complex SoCs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Experience with industry power and performance benchmarks, including system interactions and dependencies.
  • Working experience with computer hardware and architecture.
  • Understanding of memory hierarchy and system interconnects.
  • Understanding of ARM SoC concepts and architecture specifications such as SMMU, GIC, Coresight-PMU, and bus interface protocols.
  • Knowledge and experience with ARM v8 and v9 specifications.
  • Understanding of system power and performance analysis tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of software power-management stacks and scheduler behavior.
  • Strong programming and scripting skills in Python and C/C++.
