Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience, with at least 6 years working on consumer products.
  • Experience optimizing designs for battery operation with very low power usage.
  • Proven experience leading the design and development of complex systems from concept to mass production.
  • Experience working together with product management to understand the data-driven “why” and to be the voice of the customer.
  • Strong communication, EQ, and leadership skills, with the ability to guide and mentor junior engineers.
  • Demonstrated experience owning design validation plans, including defining test coverage across electrical, RF, connectivity, audio, and imaging subsystems in coordination with domain specialists and quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage at both the systems engineering level and as a technical contributor.
  • Experience in embedded systems design including design with UART, SPI, I2C, USB, Ethernet, SDIO, MIPI, etc.
  • Experience with RF technologies including Sub-GHz, WiFi and BLE.
  • Strong preference for candidates with a demonstrated bias for action.

  • Master’s degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for full lifecycle design of security focused products.
  • Identify and analyze the cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives, including impact on performance, schedule, cost, risk, complexity, and scale.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical, firmware, industrial design, sourcing and product management.
  • Drive the product development process from early-stage concept, through prototyping, testing, and production, to ensure products meet requirements, cost, and schedule targets.
  • Oversee prototype development and testing, including designing test strategies to validate product performance and resolve issues.
  • Lead design reviews and discussions with suppliers and global manufacturing partners to optimize the design for mass production.
  • Spot resource gaps early and engage the right subject-matter experts at the appropriate time.
  • Lead the communication and design execution with global manufacturing partners.
  • Support the creation of the Technical Requirements Document in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Define the overall product architecture and system-level design, ensuring alignment with product requirements, performance goals, and cross-functional constraints
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, helping them to develop their skills and advance their careers.
  • Translate high-level product and system requirements into detailed, actionable tasks and deliverables.
  • Lead risk identification and mitigation activities across the program, with responsibility for maintaining the risk register.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, sensors, and manufacturing processes to inform product design and innovation.
  • Drive programs forward with a reasonable sense of urgency.
  • Influence product roadmaps.

  • The target annual base pay range for this role is $132,700 to $194,600
