About The Position

The Staff Systems Administrator/Engineer works under limited supervision and will perform manual activities as well as automated activities commensurate with their experience that ensure FINRA meets defined quality standards. This role involves designing, implementing, customizing, maintaining, and administering operating systems and system software products. The position also includes testing and implementing updates and patches, monitoring system performance, documenting test plans, and creating/revising scripts. The Staff Systems Administrator/Engineer will perform first-line testing and analysis for equipment and infrastructure setup, conduct field-level hardware/software repairs and upgrades, and champion the collaborative resolution of defects. This role requires working across the organization to develop solutions, leading internal project/program level process improvement initiatives, and maintaining familiarity with data scope and workflows. Additionally, the position involves providing feedback on processes, training junior staff, and assisting with adherence to technology policies and security controls. The role also requires participation in Disaster Recovery (DR), Business Continuity Planning (BCP), and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) testing and reporting, demonstrating FINRA’s values, and collaborating to protect investors and maintain market integrity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline with at least three (3) years of related experience, or equivalent training and/or work experience.
  • Past systems administrator experience in a production data center environment.
  • Knowledge of industry leading monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of at least one operating system and at least one contemporary scripting language.
  • Knowledge of communication and network technologies.
  • Exposure to common operational practices like metrics reporting, change management, incident management, problem management and communication.
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships that improved the quality of work products.
  • Should be well organized, thorough, and able to handle competing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain focus and develop proficiency in new skills rapidly.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • ITIL & ISO:9000 framework experience/certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze process and system specifications to ensure delivery requirements are met.
  • Designs, implements, customizes, maintains and administers operating systems and system software products.
  • Tests and implements operating systems and system software updates and patches.
  • Monitors operating system performance to achieve optimum performance levels.
  • Document test plans, as well as, create/revise and execute scripts.
  • First line testing and analysis for equipment and infrastructure setup.

  • Work across the organization to develop solutions that meet joint requirements.
  • Lead/Co-lead internal project/program level process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain familiarity with everchanging data scope/build and determine appropriate workflows in accordance with the tools being used.
  • Provide feedback on processes by offering suggestions and train junior staff on process changes.
  • Informally mentor more junior staff.
  • Assist with adherence to technology policies and comply with all security controls.
  • Ensure all work products meets/exceeds FINRA standards.
  • Participate in periodic Disaster Recovery (DR), Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) testing and reporting.
  • Demonstration of FINRA’s values.
  • Collaboration, both in-person and virtually, in furtherance of FINRA’s mission of investor protection and market integrity.
