Staff SRE Software Engineer, Google Home

Google•San Francisco, CA
•$207,000 - $300,000

About The Position

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. SRE ensures services have reliability and uptime appropriate to customer needs while improving them quickly, and monitors system capacity and performance. The role focuses on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure, and eliminating work through automation. As part of the SRE team, the engineer will address Google Cloud-scale challenges using coding, algorithms, complexity analysis, and large-scale system design. The organization values intellectual curiosity, problem solving, openness, collaboration, self-direction, and a blame-free environment, while providing support and mentorship. Home SRE engineers the reliability, performance, and scalability behind Google Home, which powers ambient experiences across more than 100 million connected devices worldwide. The team works at the intersection of physical hardware, distributed cloud infrastructure, and real-time Voice AI. It partners with development teams on architectural engagements to simplify core backends, optimize ML serving, and make smart home interactions instant, reliable, and trustworthy. The role defines Home SRE’s technical outlook, architectural roadmap, and reliability strategy.
