About The Position

As a Staff Software Engineer at Walmart Data Ventures, you will provide technical leadership in advancing reliability, scalability, and operational excellence across the organization. You will drive Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) best practices and build reusable automation, observability, and AI-powered capabilities to strengthen reliability across platforms and services. Through hands-on engineering and cross-functional influence, you will accelerate incident resolution, reduce operational toil, and improve customer support by delivering resilient, scalable technology solutions. Walmart Data Ventures provides scalable B2B solutions that turn Walmart data into actionable insights for merchants and suppliers. Its Site Reliability Engineering team is a central enablement function that establishes SRE practices and develops reusable automation, observability, and AI-powered capabilities, including intelligent agents and self-healing systems. The position is available in Bentonville, Arkansas, with an annual salary range of $110,000–$220,000, or Sunnyvale, California, with an annual salary range of $143,000–$286,000. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses; stock may also be included for certain positions.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area, plus 4 years of experience in software engineering or a related area; or 6 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
Strong software engineering expertise in scalable distributed systems and cloud-native applications.
Deep knowledge of SRE principles, SLIs/SLOs, observability, incident management, and root cause analysis.
Hands-on experience with AI/GenAI and agentic solutions for reliability engineering, customer support, automation, and self-healing systems.
Proficiency in programming, cloud platforms, microservices, data pipelines, Kubernetes, containers, and infrastructure-as-code.
Technical leadership in architecture, engineering standards, and cross-team reliability improvements.
Strong SDLC expertise, including CI/CD, testing, deployment, monitoring, and debugging.
Excellent ownership, problem-solving, and communication skills to influence engineering practices and deliver measurable reliability improvements across Data Ventures.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area, plus 2 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
Knowledge of implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards and assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility into products and services.

Set technical direction for scalability, resilience, and reliability across Data Ventures, driving measurable reductions in incidents, MTTR, and operational toil.
Influence engineering practices through architecture reviews, reusable patterns, and cross-functional partnerships.
Advance support excellence and engineering quality through automation, CI/CD, testing, production readiness, and continuous improvement.
