About The Position

We are recruiting for Senior Software Engineer in Navigation R&D team. The role will be in Boston, MA or Warsaw, IN. Fueled by innovation at the intersection of biology and technology, we’re developing the next generation of smarter, less invasive, more personalized treatments. Our Orthopaedics teams help keep more than 6 million people moving each year while delivering clinical and economic value to surgeons and healthcare systems. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant software development experience
  • 2+ years of leading a scrum team as a software technical leader
  • Strong proficiency in full-stack C#/.NET development, object oriented design, and core CS fundamentals (data structures, algorithms) including at least one front-end technology.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on, experience in developing and supporting a full-stack application system with customer facing front-end (GUI) that integrates with on-device and cloud backend systems.
  • Experience with API development and integration with cloud services, preferably AWS.
  • Excellent ability to author technical documentation for software applications.
  • Proficiency across the full SDLC in a regulated environment: requirements, design, implementation, testing, traceability, release, and maintenance.
  • Strong debugging and profiling skills on Windows; experience with CI/CD and automated testing.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and influence skills; ability to lead architecture and design reviews.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience with Medical Device or MedTech industry preferred.
  • Experience with AI-driven development. Proven experience implementing AI/ML models into production applications.(Highly preferred)
  • Experience with Windows application development using WPF.
  • Experience in developing regulated medical device software (SaMD) under standards like IEC 62304, FDA cybersecurity guidance.
  • Experience with requirements, design documentation in tools like Polarion, JAMA, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Architect major software features/enhancements and deliver detailed development execution plans
  • Participate in product planning sessions to accurately define development timelines
  • Build production grade on device clinical applications and services in C#/.NET for Windows and iOS targets, integrating with local and cloud services.
  • Develop concurrent, multi threaded components and services using REST APIs and databases, with an architecture that supports evolution and versioning.
  • Use secure coding principles to ensure cybersecurity and patient safety with appropriate technologies and cybersecurity processes. Examples: X.509 device identity, mutual TLS, certificate rotation, secure storage (e.g., integration with Key Vault), threat modeling, and least privilege access.
  • Build cloud connected backends and integrations in Azure or similar cloud environments (Functions, App Service, containers where appropriate) to support telemetry ingestion, command routing, and fleet operations.
  • Drive software quality through unit/integration/system tests (including hardware in the loop), profiling, observability (structured logging, metrics, traces), and CI/CD integration.
  • Contribute to regulatory documentation, traceability, and V&V aligned with IEC 62304, ISO 14971, and related guidance; support submissions (e.g., FDA 510(k)) as needed.
  • Collaborate in Agile/Scrum workflows, mentor junior engineers, and lead design/code reviews to sustain long term maintainability.
