Staff Software Engineer, Distributed Systems
About The Position
Premier Global Links LLC is recruiting a Staff-level Software Engineer for an innovative technology company building high-scale data integration and synchronization systems. This role focuses on designing and scaling distributed backend systems that move large volumes of customer data reliably and efficiently. The engineer will tackle complex challenges involving streaming, performance optimization, system reliability, and multi-region cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a hands-on backend engineer with strong distributed systems fundamentals, experience scaling mission-critical services, and a track record of delivering high-impact projects in fast-growing technology companies. The role involves owning technical projects from architecture and implementation through deployment and optimization, while collaborating with engineering teams and customers on complex scalability challenges. The engineer will also establish practices that improve observability, reliability, and maintainability. The position can be performed remotely within U.S. or Canadian time zones.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial backend and distributed systems work.
- Staff-level engineering capability demonstrated through technical ownership, system design, and high-impact contributions.
- Experience working at a high-growth technology company or startup through significant stages of growth.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems architecture, scalability, fault tolerance, and performance optimization.
- Proven experience designing and scaling production systems that handle substantial data volumes or high throughput.
- Experience building event-driven systems, data pipelines, or synchronization services using technologies such as Kafka and message queues.
- Familiarity with SQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-based production environments.
- Experience troubleshooting complex backend systems and improving system reliability.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering teams.
- Ability to work remotely within U.S. or Canadian time zones.
Nice To Haves
- Experience building data synchronization engines or processing terabytes of data per day.
- Knowledge of streaming technologies and frameworks such as Kafka, Spark, or Flink.
- Experience with multi-cloud, multi-region, and globally distributed infrastructure.
- Experience developing low-latency APIs, caching layers, or real-time personalization systems.
- A degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- An active GitHub profile, technical portfolio, or relevant open-source contributions.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and scale distributed backend systems for high-volume data synchronization.
- Improve data processing throughput, synchronization speed, system reliability, and performance.
- Develop event-driven and streaming architectures using technologies such as Kafka and message queues.
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks across distributed services, databases, and cloud infrastructure.
- Build systems capable of supporting significant growth in data volume, traffic, and customer demand.
- Contribute to multi-cloud and multi-region infrastructure, including data residency requirements.
- Design low-latency services and caching systems for real-time data access and personalization.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and customers to solve complex scalability challenges.
- Own technical projects from architecture and implementation through deployment and optimization.
- Establish engineering practices that improve observability, reliability, and maintainability.
