About The Position

Google is seeking a software engineer to develop platform input software for Android laptops and tablets across Google’s Android and ChromeOS computing ecosystems. The role focuses on delivering premium, desktop-class input experiences and owning the technical roadmap across the input stack, from physical hardware and firmware through Linux, Android kernel drivers, native C++ processing pipelines, and Java framework services. The engineer will work across teams and with OEMs to develop OS capabilities, bring up new platforms, and deliver flagship Google devices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 8 years of experience with one or more general-purpose programming languages, such as Java, C/C++, or Python.
  • 5 years of experience with Linux Kernel, Operating Systems, Performance Analysis, Performance Optimization, Performance Tuning, and C or C++ coding.
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience in software development with C/C++, and experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, inputs, or hardware architecture.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and deliver premium, desktop-class input experiences across Google’s unified Android and ChromeOS computing ecosystems.
  • Own the end-to-end technical roadmap across the input stack, including physical hardware matrices, firmware protocols (HID, HID++, USI 2.0 styluses, SPI/I2C touch controllers), Linux, Android GKI kernel drivers, native C++ input-processing pipelines, and Java framework services.
  • Design and scale foundational OS capabilities, including public and system APIs for third-party peripherals, mouse-button customization, next-generation keyboard standards with dedicated AI hardware triggers, cross-form-factor haptics for trackpads and styluses, heatmap-driven palm-rejection algorithms, and low-latency hardware-to-OS wake signaling.
  • Serve as the primary technical conduit among system UI, input-experience hardware engineering, and global Tier-1 OEMs for new platform bring-up.
  • Advocate for next-generation hardware-in-the-loop test automation and input-latency telemetry.
  • Drive operational excellence in release bug triaging and code ownership to deliver flagship Google devices.
