About The Position

Walmart is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring high-quality system design. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across functions to translate complex business needs into effective solutions. The BuyBox team plays a key role in Walmart’s e-commerce platform by developing and maintaining a microservices ecosystem that optimizes offer selection using machine learning and business rules. The team focuses on enhancing offer ranking, ensuring smooth system interactions, and monitoring performance to address issues swiftly. Emphasizing collaboration, technical expertise, and continuous innovation, the team drives operational excellence and supply chain efficiency. Utilizing agile methodologies and data-driven decision making, the team supports Walmart’s commitment to reliable service and value, fostering a culture centered on problem solving and ongoing improvement.

Requirements

• Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable and resilient platforms.
• Strong proficiency in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
• Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
• Ability to integrate AI/ML components and intelligent automation using languages such as Python, JavaScript, and C++.
• Demonstrated skills in debugging, problem solving, and data-driven decision making to optimize engineering outcomes.
• Effective collaboration and mentorship capabilities to guide teams and influence technical decisions.
• Commitment to engineering excellence through continuous improvement and innovation.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
• 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
• Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
• Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining in creating accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

• Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and machine learning frameworks aligned with roadmap priorities.
• Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
