About The Position

MoonPay is building a unified identity and KYC platform that supports customers across ramps, cards, virtual accounts and enterprise products. The platform is intended to make identity a reusable capability, allowing customers to verify once, control their information and access multiple MoonPay-powered products without repeating the same identity journey. As a hands-on Staff Software Engineer, you will help define the platform’s architecture and technical direction while building its most important components. You will turn an evolving vision into technical strategy and deliverable work; establish a shared identity model across products; and build secure APIs and SDKs for internal teams and external partners. The platform will cover identity creation, verification, linking, updates, consent and deletion, and integrate with external KYC and identity-verification providers. You will shape how identity data is stored, accessed and shared across products, jurisdictions and legal entities, with consent, auditability, data residency, retention, deletion and authorization controls considered from the start. You will design for safe failure when providers or internal dependencies are unavailable, and partner with Security, Privacy, Legal and Compliance while keeping the platform practical for developers. You will also establish stable API contracts, versioning and migration strategies, provide observability into identity journeys and verification decisions, and reduce duplicated identity and KYC work across product teams. The role involves influencing multiple teams and setting engineering standards through hands-on design, implementation, reviews and operation of production systems.

Requirements

Experience building or owning production identity, KYC, authentication or customer-data infrastructure used across multiple products.
Experience defining shared platform architecture rather than delivering only a single onboarding or login experience.
Experience building public APIs and SDKs for external developers, including stability, versioning, documentation and backwards compatibility.
Understanding of security, privacy and operational requirements for storing and processing identity information.
Ability to reason across data models, verification providers, product workflows, compliance requirements and failure modes.
Experience taking an underspecified problem, creating technical direction and bringing multiple teams along.
Hands-on experience designing, building, reviewing and operating production systems.

Nice To Haves

Experience building identity or KYC infrastructure in payments, fintech, banking or another regulated environment.
Experience with reusable verified identity, identity vaults or portable customer profiles.
Experience with OAuth, OIDC, WebAuthn, passkeys, session management or account recovery.
Experience building systems that support consent, data residency, privacy requests and audit trails.
Experience working with multiple KYC, KYB or identity-verification providers.
Experience building developer platforms for external partners.
Familiarity with cryptocurrency, wallets or digital-asset products.
Familiarity with TypeScript, Node.js, GCP, PostgreSQL, Redis and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

Define technical strategy, architecture and a sequence of deliverable work for the identity and KYC platform.
Identify boundaries between identity, authentication, verification, compliance and product-specific onboarding.
Set engineering standards through rigorous reviews and lasting engineering practices.
Align teams across ramps, cards, virtual accounts and enterprise products around a shared identity model.
Design and build a unified identity layer for multiple products, partners and regulated use cases.
Model the customer identity lifecycle, including creation, verification, linking, updates, consent and deletion.
Build secure APIs and SDKs for internal teams and external partners.
Integrate KYC and identity-verification providers while maintaining a consistent, extensible internal model.
Define ownership boundaries between the identity platform and products built on it.
Define how identity data is stored, accessed and shared across products, jurisdictions and legal entities.
Design for consent, auditability, data residency, retention and deletion.
Build authorization controls for access to verified customer information.
Ensure safe degradation when external verification providers or internal dependencies fail.
Partner with Security, Privacy, Legal and Compliance.
Build developer-facing APIs, SDKs and documentation for identity workflows.
Establish stable contracts, versioning strategies and migration paths.
Provide observability into identity journeys, verification decisions and integration failures.
Reduce duplicated identity and KYC logic across product teams.
Design, build, review and operate production systems hands-on.
