Staff Software Engineer - Experimentation Platform

Taskrabbit•San Francisco, CA
•Hybrid

About The Position

Taskrabbit’s Core Services team builds shared capabilities and services used across the platform, providing a foundation that helps the engineering organization work efficiently and deliver scalable features. The Staff Software Engineer will help lead a team responsible for designing, building, evolving, and maintaining these systems. An initial focus will be leading integration of the company-wide experimentation platform so product and engineering teams can test hypotheses and iterate on features. The role’s technical decisions will influence engineering productivity, product velocity, and the marketplace experience. This is a hybrid role requiring two days in the San Francisco office each week, every Tuesday and Wednesday. The position works across TypeScript-based APIs and services and Ruby on Rails backend infrastructure, and partners with engineering and product leaders on an organization-wide, data-driven experimentation strategy.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience developing modern APIs.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major experimentation and feature-flagging platform, such as Optimizely, Growthbook, or Statsig.
  • Professional experience with AI-led agentic software development tools, such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.
  • Experience building and maintaining robust TypeScript-based APIs and services.
  • Exceptionally strong technical design and architecture skills, focused on scalable shared capabilities.
  • Experience with modern software development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized environments.
  • Passion for mentoring engineers and elevating team capabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate complex technical subjects.
  • Proven ability to break complex platform initiatives into manageable, high-impact iterations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Ruby on Rails.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and data streaming mechanisms, such as Kafka.

  • Experience with Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) design patterns.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, integration, and adoption of the company-wide experimentation platform to support rapid iteration and feature testing across teams.
  • Design, build, and maintain robust, high-performance TypeScript-based APIs and foundational services.
  • Work with Ruby on Rails backend services and integrate shared capabilities into existing application infrastructure.
  • Propose and drive improvements to platform performance, reliability, and developer experience.
  • Guide and mentor engineers on feature experimentation, API design, and scalable architecture best practices.
  • Partner with Engineering and Product leadership to establish a unified, data-driven experimentation strategy across Taskrabbit.
  • Advise senior leadership on platform capabilities, experimentation architecture, and future strategic initiatives.
