About The Position

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join their Electric Vehicles, Digital and Design (EVDD) team, specifically within the Ford Pro Intelligence (FPI) Telematics team. This role is crucial in building web applications and services that provide customers with useful, reliable, and secure products for managing their vehicle fleets. The team develops back-end services and APIs that are accessible via web, mobile, and API applications, aiming to deliver an industry-leading customer experience for electric vehicle buyers and owners. The EVDD team is described as customer-obsessed, entrepreneurial, and data-driven, working collaboratively to pioneer the EV future.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • English proficiency (written and verbal).
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in back-end API development, with deep proficiency in modern languages such as Java or Kotlin.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, optimizing, and managing relational databases and complex SQL queries, specifically with PostgreSQL.
  • 5+ years of hands-on expertise with cloud-native infrastructure, specifically Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or comparable providers like AWS or Azure.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with frontend development, particularly frameworks like React/AngularJS.
  • Highly effective in working with other technical experts, Product Managers, Dev Ops, Big Data, UI/UX Designers and business stakeholders.
  • Experience with RESTful interfaces and OAS standards.
  • Experience with Springboot services.
  • Experience with pub/sub architecture and in general other cloud capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Architecture and leading development of core API services, data pipelines, and frontends.
  • Participate in and/or lead the development of requirements, features, user stories, use cases, and test cases.
  • Architect and design solutions for large projects that cut across multiple teams in FPI and partner teams in Ford Engineering.
  • Effectively scope and provide timelines and capacity needs for large projects.
  • Lead development of projects involving multiple senior and mid-level engineers.
  • Raise the engineering bar within the organization by proposing internal tooling, frameworks and processes to better improve efficiency and service quality.
  • Participate and/or lead incident, problem, change and service request-related activities, including root cause analysis (RCA) and proactive problem management/defect prevention.
