About The Position

Google is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the BigQuery Processing Core Runtime team. Google software engineers develop technologies and products that operate at massive scale. In this role, you will work on projects critical to Google’s needs, with opportunities to move between teams and projects as the business evolves. Google seeks engineers who are versatile, demonstrate leadership, and are enthusiastic about tackling new problems across the full stack. Google BigQuery is a fast, serverless, highly scalable, multi-cloud data warehouse offered through Google Cloud Platform. It supports analytics use cases such as reporting, business intelligence, data pipelines, and data marts. The team’s mission is to make BigQuery the best data warehouse for low-latency, high-throughput use cases, with a focus on improving performance for queries that process small datasets. The position provides technical leadership and involves designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing large-scale software solutions. You will improve the BigQuery engine by removing bottlenecks for low-latency queries and designing solutions that are easy to maintain and extend. The work uses the BigQuery and Dremel codebase, primarily C++, with some Java in control planes and Python for tests.
