About The Position

The Staff Software Engineer will join Stripe’s Alloy Integrations team, which owns how Metronome customers collect payments and recognize revenue. The team builds and operates integrations between Metronome’s usage-based billing platform and systems customers rely on, including Stripe invoicing and payments, AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud marketplaces, ERP platforms such as NetSuite and QuickBooks, and CRM platforms such as Salesforce. It also brings Stripe products such as Checkout into Metronome to support customers’ contract-to-cash workflows. The role focuses on invoicing—including collection, dunning, and invoice delivery—and quote-to-cash automation, connecting the journey from a signed deal to recognized revenue. The engineer will build and operate distributed systems that move billing data between Metronome and customers’ financial platforms. The work combines product engineering and reliability: delivering customer-requested features and strengthening event-driven pipelines that handle large month-end invoicing spikes. The engineer will collaborate with the product manager, partner engineering teams responsible for contracts, usage rating, and invoice finalization, solutions architects building ERP integrations, and technical support engineers. In the first few months, the engineer is expected to ship a customer-facing integration improvement, join the on-call rotation, and take ownership of a core system.

Requirements

  • Typically 10 or more years of professional experience building and operating backend systems in production.
  • Experience designing and integrating with third-party APIs, including handling failures, retries, and data consistency across systems.
  • Experience with distributed or event-driven systems, such as message queues, streams, or workflow engines.
  • Experience owning production services, including monitoring, on-call, and incident response.
  • Ability to communicate technical tradeoffs clearly to engineers and people outside engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with billing, invoicing, payments, tax, or other financial systems where correctness matters.
  • Experience with AWS serverless and data services such as Lambda, Kinesis, SQS, or Step Functions.
  • Familiarity with ERP or CRM platforms such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, or Salesforce, or with cloud marketplace billing.
  • Experience with GraphQL APIs and relational databases such as Postgres.
  • Experience leading cross-team projects or large migrations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain integrations between Metronome and external billing, payments, marketplace, ERP, and CRM platforms.
  • Build reliable, event-driven systems for invoice delivery, payment workflows, and status synchronization, including safe retries, rollbacks, and reconciliation.
  • Ship features that help customers control invoicing, collections, and revenue accounting, from design through launch.
  • Improve observability and automated repair so system problems are detected and fixed before customers notice them.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and follow-up work for owned systems.
  • Plan and carry out migrations and changes to existing integrations without disrupting customer billing.
  • Partner with product, support, solutions architecture, and other engineering teams to scope work and represent customer needs.
