This role involves leading engineering projects, troubleshooting complex issues, and driving innovation. The Staff Software Engineer will guide small teams of engineers, including offshore associates, by providing documentation, direction, and examples. They will identify and implement short- and long-term solutions, review proposed solutions, adopt new architectural patterns, and conduct design and code reviews. A key part of the role is troubleshooting business and production issues by analyzing information, engaging support teams, formulating action plans, and performing root cause analysis to prevent recurrence. The engineer will also lead the discovery phase of projects, collaborating with product management, Web Operations, project management, business, and user experience teams to develop high-level designs, conduct proofs-of-concept, and implement prototypes. Additionally, they will develop innovation strategies, processes, and best practices by leading technical teams, partnering with cross-functional teams, assessing opportunities, defining project scopes, developing long-range plans, and influencing decision-makers. The role includes leading and participating in large-scale, complex projects by translating requirements into technical solutions, writing and developing code, conducting unit testing, communicating status, troubleshooting issues, enhancing designs, and ensuring timely delivery. Finally, the engineer will support business objectives by collaborating with business partners to identify opportunities, address high-priority initiatives, and define solutions, while also utilizing industry research to improve Walmart's technology environment by analyzing best practices, benchmarking, researching future solutions, and defining software development guidelines.
