About The Position
Pragmatike is recruiting on behalf of a fast-growing technology company building sophisticated software systems and infrastructure at scale. We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer with experience in YC-backed or Venture backed start-ups to lead high-impact technical initiatives, design scalable systems, and help shape the engineering architecture as the company continues to grow. This is a high-ownership role for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working across teams, and turning ambiguous requirements into reliable production systems.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong experience with TypeScript, Python, Go, or a combination of these.
- Proven experience designing and operating production systems at scale.
- Strong distributed systems and system design knowledge.
- Experience leading technical projects across multiple teams.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Strong ownership and ability to operate independently.
- Willingness to work on-site in San Francisco.
- Fluent English required

- Experience with cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes.
- Experience building high-scale SaaS or platform systems.
- Distributed systems or event-driven architecture experience.
- AI/ML infrastructure or AI product experience.
- Startup or scale-up experience.
- Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of complex, production-grade systems.
- Architect scalable services and APIs using TypeScript, Python, and Go.
- Own technically challenging projects from design through deployment.
- Drive architectural decisions across multiple engineering teams.
- Improve system performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
- Identify technical bottlenecks and develop long-term solutions.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and other technical stakeholders.
- Establish engineering standards, patterns, and best practices.
- Mentor senior engineers and provide technical leadership.
- Participate in technical strategy and long-term platform planning.
