About The Position

The Staff Software Engineer is a senior individual contributor who leads technical direction for a team or group of teams. The role addresses complex and ambiguous engineering problems and designs systems supporting loan origination, underwriting, and servicing platforms. The engineer works with high-volume transactions, sensitive borrower and financial data, and third-party integrations. This is a hands-on technical leadership role that includes writing code, while having significant impact through architecture, unblocking teams, and developing engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical direction and architecture for systems owned by one or more teams, aligning that work with the broader platform.
• Break down ambiguous, high-impact problems into clear plans and drive them from design through delivery across teams.
• Design systems for scale, reliability, security, and maintainability, making pragmatic tradeoffs among them.
• Write, review, and improve code in high-impact and high-risk areas, especially lending-critical workflows such as underwriting, pricing, and closing.
• Partner with product managers, QA, design, and business stakeholders to turn challenging business problems and vague requirements into clear technical plans.
• Lead design reviews and technical decisions, building consensus across teams with different priorities.
• Own the technical integrity of integrations with loan origination systems, credit bureaus, pricing engines, and other third-party vendors.
• Build security, privacy, auditability, and regulatory requirements into systems, including correct handling of PII and financial data.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, and set standards for code quality, testing, and operational excellence.
