About The Position

The Staff Software Engineer will lead and participate in medium- to large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects. This role involves translating requirements into technical solutions, writing and developing code, conducting unit testing, and collaborating with project and cross-functional teams. The engineer will troubleshoot issues, enhance designs to prevent defect re-occurrences, and ensure on-time delivery. They will also lead small groups of engineers, providing direction, reviewing solutions, implementing architectural patterns, and performing design and code reviews. Additionally, the role includes troubleshooting business and production issues, performing root cause analysis, and developing innovation strategies and best practices. The engineer will also conduct complex maintenance procedures, monitor application performance, analyze logs, and evaluate change requests. They will utilize industry research to improve technology environments and define software development guidelines. The role involves assisting in designing solutions, evaluating trade-offs, and converting high-level designs to detailed designs. The engineer will select appropriate frameworks, guide teams on coding patterns, drive scalability and security, and implement telemetry features. They will support ad-hoc code reviews and create minimalistic code for products and systems, ensuring business and non-functional requirements are met. The engineer will also drive the creation of automation scripts and translate customer requirements into test strategies, selecting and implementing testing tools.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field plus 4 years of experience in software engineering or related experience; OR Master's degree or the equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field plus 2 years of experience in software engineering or related experience.
Utilizing Java, C and C++ for software development and code review
Analyzing bugs from UI and debugging issues to separate them from front end or backend systems with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, jQuery, TypeScript, Ajax, ES6, MVC, Angular Material, Angular6, Node.js, React JS, React Native, Active Widgets, and Bootstrap
Analyzing XML files as input and processing according to system requirements using JSP, Servlets and XML
Performing Rapid Application Development (RAD) and analyzing and debugging application issues with IntelliJ, Eclipse, Edit Plus, Win Merge, WinRAR, Microsoft SQL Server Management, DBeaver, Toad and STS
Utilizing middleware servers (Apache http web server, Apache Tomcat 8.x, BEA Web logic and JBoss) to run and deploy Spring Boot and web applications and configuring servers as part of Spring Boot application
Maintaining directory structures and configuring build files to generate target artifacts with appropriate extensions and deploying applications to cloud infrastructure as part of Kubernetes (K8s) environments using build and deployment tools such as Ant, Maven, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes
Working with RDBMS servers (Oracle, MySQL, DB2, and SQL Server) to store, retrieve, update and delete information based on the end user input
Developing distributed applications and MVC based applications along unit testing and integration testing utilizing Struts1.x, Struts2.x, DWR, Ajax, Hibernate, Spring MVC, Spring Boot, Micro Services, Spring Core, Spring Security, Junit Testing, Mockito, JMeter
Using Web Services, Spring Rest API, Postman Client, AWS, and Azure to analyze input data and developing RESTful APIs
Analyzing production issues using Splunk and ELK logs, creating critical alerts, and utilizing Grafana for monitoring dashboards and alerting systems in production environments with Splunk, ELK, Graphite and Grafana
Using SVN, GIT, Bit Bucket, and Jenkins CI/CA to manage code base, securing code base, Pull requests and review organization

Responsibilities

Leads and participates in medium- to large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects by reviewing project requirements; translating requirements into technical solutions; gathering information; writing and developing code; conducting unit testing; communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders; collaborating with project and cross-functional teams; troubleshooting open issues and bug-fixes; enhancing design to prevent defect re-occurrences; ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs; interacting with project manager to provide input on project plan; and providing leadership to the project team.
Leads small groups of six to ten engineers, including offshore associates, for assigned engineering projects by providing documents, direction, and examples; identifying short- and long-term solutions and timeline; reviewing and approving proposed solutions; implementing new architectural patterns; and performing design and code reviews.
Troubleshoots business and production issues by reviewing and analyzing information; engaging support teams to assist in resolution; formulating action plans; directing actions as designated; interpreting results to determine further action; performing root cause analysis to prevent future issues; and completing online documentation.
Tracks and analyzes defects for components/modules and carries out regression testing to fix defects in code changes. Analyzes defects from past projects/solutions to avoid recurrence. Troubleshoots performance and availability bottlenecks.
Develops innovation strategies, processes, and best practices by leading internal technical teams; partnering with cross-functional teams; developing assessments of key opportunities; documenting project scopes; developing long-range plans and timelines; communicating with and influencing decision-makers and executives; and resolving technology differences across teams through informed discussions.
Conducts complex maintenance procedures independently. Monitors and evaluates application performance by tracking and analyzing metrics; performs maintenance and re-engineering activities. Analyzes application logs, maintenance activity, performance data; evaluates change requests to identify those valid and feasible.
Utilizes industry research to improve Wal-Mart's technology environment by analyzing best practices; researching or influencing future solutions for fit with internal needs; and defining software development guidelines, standards, and processes.
Assists in designing solutions so processes/applications work in tandem for specific components/modules. Evaluates trade-offs while designing components based on business requirements. Assists in converting HLD to detailed design using mock screens, pseudo code, and detailed functional logic for specific modules/components.
Selects appropriate frameworks, platforms, and environments for coding/configuration and scripting. Guides team on coding patterns, languages, and frameworks aligned with evolving industry trends; drives scalability and security. Drives implementation of telemetry features by determining data/metrics requirements within domain. Supports ad-hoc code reviews to ensure baseline mitigations for known risks. Creates/configures minimalistic code for entire products/systems ensuring business requirements, non-functional requirements, low-maintainability, high-availability, and scalability needs are met. Oversees code executed by team according to technical/business requirements. Drives creation of scripts for automating repetitive and routine tasks in CI/CD, testing, or other processes.
Translates customer requirements into test strategy. Determines testing tools, domains, environments, and test types to achieve objectives. Selects, introduces, and implements various testing tools. Identifies scope and method of testing per requirement.
