About The Position

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving the full software development lifecycle from coding to deployment and maintenance. You will apply cloud-native architecture principles to enhance system resilience and agility while integrating AI/ML solutions to advance intelligent automation. This role requires technical leadership, mentoring, and collaboration across teams to ensure high-quality, maintainable software aligned with business objectives. You will champion engineering excellence through data-driven decision-making, continuous improvement, and effective communication with stakeholders to support Walmart’s technology goals. Immigration Sponsorship support will NOT be available for this position. About the team: The Atlas WMS team oversees the platform end-to-end, developing systems that direct inbound freight, optimize inventory slotting, and enhance picking and packing for millions of weekly orders. The team supports associate workflows and integrates advanced robotics and automation technologies. Operating at a large scale, Atlas processes vast daily transactions, supporting tens of thousands of associates and ensuring timely order fulfillment. This team tackles complex engineering challenges to build foundational technology that drives operations for a leading retailer, delivering significant impact on warehouse efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Java programming and software design patterns to develop secure, maintainable, and modular solutions.
  • Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and system observability.
  • Ability to conduct thorough design reviews and apply data-driven decision making to optimize platform and product development.
  • Demonstrated skills in API design, software prototyping, and DevOps engineering to enhance developer productivity.
  • Aptitude for mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions to promote engineering excellence and sustainability.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
