Starburst is seeking a backend engineer for its Identity and Access Management (IAM) team. The role focuses on developing and operating IAM features for Starburst Galaxy and the Starburst Enterprise Platform (SEP), helping build secure, scalable data-governance experiences. The team prioritizes security alongside performance, usability, and flexibility in authentication and authorization, and builds tools around industry-standard authentication systems and access-control capabilities such as RBAC, ABAC, data classification, and tagging. The engineer will develop product features, support production systems, build tools, and collaborate with stakeholders across the product lifecycle. Work may include standalone security tools, CI/CD integrations, and product security features and fixes. The position also involves reviewing peers’ pull requests and design proposals. It is based in Starburst’s Boston office and follows a hybrid model, with onsite work expected one to two days per week. Occasional in-person travel may be required for onboarding, offsites, customer engagements, and other company events.
