Staff Software Engineer
About The Position
The Hartford is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our growing Technology Team. This role is accountable for a small or medium scale software product, involving end-to-end solution delivery across multiple platforms and technologies with small to medium complexity, or certain sub-systems of large, complex implementations. The Staff Software Engineer provides significant input to influence application solution architecture and is accountable for software designs across the product team. Responsibilities include building and implementing capabilities for continuous integration and continuous delivery aligned with Enterprise DevOps practices, and accountability for team development and pipeline tool decisions. This role also ensures software engineering practices such as source code management, branching, and issue tracking are followed for the product. Additionally, the Staff Software Engineer holds technical leadership responsibility for hiring, mentoring, and fostering culture at a product team level, actively collaborating with team members to drive team outcomes and being accountable for the team's Engineering Culture.
Requirements
- Five or more years of experience.
- Collaboration across teams, decision making, conflict resolution and relationship building.
- Design and development skills extend to service design patterns, APIs, UI/UX frameworks.
- Expertise in software packaging tools and artifact management tools.
- Infrastructure architecture and configuration skills for effective operations support.
- Technical documentation review.
- Thought leadership to drive continuous improvement, pragmatic deliberations and root cause problem solving.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
- Focus on collaboration, help each other to solve problems.
- Value employee efforts and recognize their contribution.
- Define Software Engineering Practices followed for the product.
Responsibilities

- Accountable for Software engineering practices e.g. Source code management, branching, issue tracking etc., followed for the product.
- Technical leadership responsibility for hiring, mentoring and culture etc. at a product team level.
- Actively collaborates with team members to drive team outcomes.
- Accountable for team Engineering Culture.
- Review and refine any tools and processes for quality governance.
- Collaborate with the team to mature Code quality management, automated testing, and environment management practices to deliver incremental customer value.
