Staff Software Engineer, Surfaces

Jasper,
$221,000 - $260,000Remote

About The Position

Jasper is the marketing agents platform, built to help enterprises orchestrate AI agents that execute marketing work at scale. Purpose-built for marketing teams, Jasper enables faster, more consistent execution across campaigns, personalization, localization, and compliance—while maintaining enterprise-grade control and governance. Jasper has already made its shift to serving the enterprise, and this is the work that continues to strengthen that direction. Our governance domain (authentication, roles and permissions, organizations, billing) is the backbone of every customer interaction, and it needs a Staff-level engineer to own its architecture and modernization. You'll take the reins of these critical backend foundations, refactoring them to be composable, stable, and scalable, so they can power the next generation of enterprise workflows for CMOs, marketing admins, and our own Forward Deployed Engineers. This is a role for someone who wants to operate as a deep technical IC, driving architectural direction and hardening the systems that everything else depends on. This fully remote role reports to our Director of Engineering and is open to candidates located anywhere in the continental US.

Requirements

  • AI fluency with a working understanding of core AI concepts (LLMs, agents, tokens, credits, context windows, RAG, data governance, etc.), applied to backend engineering
  • Heavy backend experience. This is a "second rodeo" hire: you've owned complex, business-critical backend systems before and you know what it takes to harden them for enterprise scale.
  • Deep expertise in at least one of: authentication/authorization, multi-tenant systems, or billing platforms. You've designed these systems, not just maintained them.
  • Enterprise backend DNA. You've built for enterprise buyers and understand the bar that governance, compliance, and reliability demand at that scale. That kind of enterprise backend depth is exactly what we're looking for.
  • Strong architectural judgment. You can balance pragmatism with long-term platform thinking, and you know when to build vs. buy vs. refactor.
  • A track record of technical leadership as an IC. You've mentored engineers, raised the bar on code quality and practices, and driven technical direction as an individual contributor.
  • You're not looking for a purely architectural role. You want to write and review critical-path code while providing technical leadership.
  • You're excited to keep growing and leveling up as an IC. This is a deep technical role, and you want to deepen your craft and impact as both an individual contributor and technical voice.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience in the governance problem space: auth/authz, roles and permissions, multi-tenant organizations
  • Experience with billing systems and usage-based pricing models
  • Experience building for enterprise buyers: SSO/SAML, SCIM, audit logs, compliance frameworks (SOC2, ISO 27001)
  • Familiarity with AI-native product development: integrating LLMs, building agentic workflows, RAG systems

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture of our governance domain end-to-end (authentication, roles and permissions, organizations, groups, billing) and drive its modernization for scale, security, and extensibility
  • Lead the refactoring of foundational backend systems toward an AI-native architecture, ensuring they support composable, customizable workflows for enterprise customers
  • Set technical direction for authentication, authorization, and organizational modeling, balancing immediate hardening with long-term platform thinking
  • Partner with product and engineering leadership to translate enterprise requirements (CMOs, marketing admins, FDEs) into scalable platform capabilities
  • Mentor and elevate the engineering team, raising the bar on backend practices, code quality, and architectural rigor
  • Operate hands-on 70–80% of the time, writing and reviewing critical-path code while providing technical leadership

Benefits

  • Comprehensive Health, Dental, and Vision coverage beginning on the first day for employees and their families
  • 401(k) program with up to 2% company matching
  • Equity grant participation
  • Flexible PTO with a FlexExperience budget ($900 annually) to help you make the most of your time away from work
  • FlexWellness program ($1,800 annually) to help support your personal health goals
  • Generous budget for home office setup
  • $1,500 annual learning and development stipend
  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave
