Staff Software Engineer, Platform Engineering

Midi HealthSan Francisco, CA
Hybrid

About The Position

Midi Health is the largest virtual care clinic for women in midlife navigating perimenopause, menopause, and other hormonal transitions. We combine expert clinicians, evidence-based protocols, and a modern technology platform to deliver care that has historically been underserved by the healthcare system. We're a fast-growing, mission-driven company building the infrastructure and products that define this new category of care. Hybrid by design. Two days a week in-office (Tuesday and Thursday) in Palo Alto or San Francisco. We believe high-trust teams are built in person and scaled remotely. AI-native engineering. We expect every engineer to be fluent with modern AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, and similar) and to actively push the frontier of how we build software. Low-ego, high-curiosity. We approach disagreement with humility and technical rigor, not politics. We invest in each other's growth. Outcome-oriented. We move fast, own our work end-to-end, and balance speed with the durability that healthcare demands. You'll own the technical direction of Midi's platform — the core services, shared libraries, infrastructure, and developer tooling that every product engineer depends on. The decisions you make will determine how fast our product teams can ship, how reliably our clinicians can deliver care, and how safely we handle patient data. This is a role for someone who wants the pen on the platform strategy — not just to execute it.

  • 10+ years of experience building production services and/or infrastructure at scale
  • Seasoned hands-on engineer; still writes meaningful code (Python, Go, TypeScript, or similar)
  • Seasoned system designer across distributed systems, APIs, data platforms, networking, security, and cloud (AWS/GCP)
  • Authority in platform engineering — you've owned core services and/or developer platform direction at a high-growth company before
  • Deep product sense for internal tooling; track record of measurably improving developer velocity
  • Leader in AI-assisted engineering; you define how platform teams adopt and benefit from it
  • Seasoned mentor with a track record of growing platform engineers
  • Strong communicator with product, security, and executive stakeholders
  • Low-ego, curious, humble

Nice To Haves

  • Lead high-impact, cross-cutting initiatives across cloud infrastructure, data infrastructure, and reliability practices (multi-region, cost, observability, security posture, platform ergonomics)
  • Define and enforce the security and compliance foundations for a HIPAA environment
  • Treat product engineers as customers; raise the bar on developer experience across the org
  • Partner with engineering leadership on capacity, hiring, and platform roadmap
  • Mentor platform and product engineers; grow the platform competency across the org
